Data Base Management
The Data Base Management (DBMS) system provides maintenance and
custom reporting for the system's data files. The data files
processed may be standard MPAC data files or any additional data
files as defined by the user.
Data files are defined or established via standard file
maintenance functions for data file specifications, data item
specifications, and index specifications. Data file
specifications provide for descriptions and file names of the
system's data files. Data item specifications provide for
descriptions of the data files' individual fields including file
name, field sequence number, field name, description, data type,
length, and (optionally) number of decimal places. Index
specifications provide information relating to the data files'
perpetual indexes including file name, index number, field
number, and field name. The standard file maintenance functions
of enter, change, delete, inquire, copy, select data items,
import, export, and print are provided for each of the DBMS
system's specification files.
The standard file maintenance functions are also made available
for any data file entered into the specifications data base.
Data files to be maintained or reported are selected via the
standard MPAC file selection interface. The user has the option
to select an individual file by name, display a range of file
names for selection by number, or list all files for selection by
number.
Listing functions are made available in sequence by any perpetual
index specified for a particular data file. Ranges of records to
be reported may be selected based on the sequence selected.
The data items to be processed by file maintenance and listing
functions are determined via the function for data item
selection. Reports may be taken in screen display or hardcopy
form. Depending on the data items selected, reports may be 80
columns or 132 columns wide with a single report line per data
record, or may be 132 columns wide with multiple report lines per
data record.
