MPAC Windows thin client Prerequisites Windows 95 or better is required. Screen resolution of at least 800x600 is preferable. Installation Run setupex.exe. Follow the prompts. The default values supplied should be ok. Icons will be installed on the desktop and start menus. Click the Mpac icon to start the client. Setup From the right click speed menu or the file menu on the menu bar, select change/delete host records. From the list box, select "host". Note: there is nothing magic about the host ID "host". That's just the arbitrary name of a generic host file record you can use to get started. Fill in the host name or IP address of the host you want to connect to. Optionally, you may also fill in your user ID and password on that host and click OS auto login and OS enter password. Click update. From the list box, click cancel. Connection From the speed or file menu, select connect to host. From the list box, select the appropriate host ("host" if your setup is as described above). Click connect. Depending on how your Windows system is configured, dial up networking may assert itself at this point. If this happens, and assuming the desired host is on your LAN, click cancel. If the specified host is available, a login or shell prompt will appear (depending on your settings regarding auto login). Options Various options are available from the mode preferences window available from the speed or file menu. You may want to explore these. A few of them are worth mentioning at this time. Menu bar Uncheck this to eliminate the menu bar. This will allow a little more space for larger fonts. Auto connect and auto exit Check these to automatically connect and or disconnect. Auto connection will take place when the client starts. Auto exit takes place when you log off the host. This just saves a few clicks. Note: Maintenance of host file information is not allowed while connected. For this reason, at least one of these options must be disabled in order to access host info. Color mapping This is a more advanced option that some users may be interested in. As distributed, the client performs no remapping, which results in the appearance of a character terminal (vt-320). The colors of greatest importance are black, white, red, and cyan. These can be remapped to the colors of choice. Examples: black on gray (the dialog box look), white on green (the desktop look), white on blue (the terminal emulator look). Interactive features Local scan and image display, custom key mapping, text or gui interface, live mouse, smart fonts, hotspots for drill-down capability, context sensitive speed menu of related functions, access to windows print manager.
