MPAC demonstration system Contents The system contains the following directories: bakusr (demonstration data files) bin (binary programs) ediin (inbound EDI directory) ediout (outbound EDI directory) exp (import/export directory) hlp (operator help files) ip (image processing files) lib (shared binary library) ss (spreadsheet files) usr (main working directory) wp (word processing files) Installation Execute the following series of commands: $ umask 0 (preserves permissions) $ cd /usr (or any chosen file system) $ su (give password if so prompted) # mkdir mpac (or any name of your choice) # ^d (control-d - optional) $ cd mpac (or your chosen directory name) Ftp or copy mpacdemo.tar.Z to the chosen directory and execute the following: $ uncompress mpademo.tar $ tar -xvf mpacdemo.tar The filesystem or parent directory name "/usr" is arbitrary. The use of any chosen filesystem or parent directory will serve as well. "/usr2" or "/var" are common options for UNIX systems. "/u" is common, and often preferable for AIX systems. Establishing demonstration data $ cd /usr/mpac/usr (or your chosen directory name) $ rstdmo (or ./rstdmo) This command will copy the demonstration data files from ../bakusr to the current directory. It may be used whenever it is desirable to reset the demonstration data to its initial state. 1 Invocation The demo system may be invoked as follows: $ cd /usr/mpac/usr (or your chosen directory name) $ mpac This will bring you to the initial login screen where you will be prompted for the entry of a user I.D. The demo system has a default user I.D. set up so that you can log in by pressing return at this point. You will then be presented with the system master menu. At this point, you should initiate the operator help function by selecting it from the menu or by entering "h", or "?". After reviewing the information given there, you should be reasonably well prepared to operate all subsequent functions. Limitations This software is intended for demonstration purposes only. Therefore, its functionality is limited in several ways. Data file sizes are limited to a maximum of 512k each. Dates subsequent to 12-31-2001 cannot be processed. Only a single data file directory is supported. Certain office automation functions are unavailable. Scanning from the server is not available. Modem dail out for fax and EDI are not supported under linux. A maximum of 3 users is supported. Workstations Various devices and systems may be used as workstations. Server console monitor - Very readable, but supports only 80 column text mode. Less than ideal for this reason. Character terminal - Good utility. 80 and 132 column modes supported. Windows PC/microsoft telnet - Monochrcome, 80 column only. Not a good solution. Windows PC/commercial terminal emulator - Generally the same functionality as a character terminal. Windows PC/MPAC thin client - Dynamic font sizing, live mouse, drill downs, hot spots, speed menu, graphics, GUI options. 2
